There is a lot of hype in the market place about receiving HD channels. Especially with the new branded LCDTV having Free to Air receiver built in.
These new sets receive HD via UHF.Ultra High frequency.Aireal not Dish.
If you live in Christchurch you have to be able to see Sugar loaf to receive HD.
The same applies in any city or area.
Now you are going to be very disappointed if you find that the sales person tells you that this is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Especially after you have paid for the set.
Say you live in Sumner.
You turn on the set and try and tune the set to HD.
No one home because you are not in view of Sugar loaf.
This built in Free to Air Tuners relies on UHF.The aerial must point to the transmitter.
You cannot connect these sets to your Sky Dish and get HD.
The only way to get HD in an outlying area that does not have line of site to the transmitter is by purchasing or renting My Sky that uses the Sky Dish.
If you're not worried about HD you should purchase a Stand alone Free to Air decoder that can connect to your excising Dish. You will get an excellent picture, and you will not have to worry about poor reception or on going rental charges.
If you have not brought a Free to Air Decoder yet, please read on.
